Battle System
From The Five Pillars
This page describes the basic workings of a Battle. Clicking on the Battle link will give you more detailed information about the battle mechanics.
Your army will be sorted by Battle Power (BP) before they go into battle, you can only bring 10 stacks on the battlefield (with a possible 11th stack = the reinforcements). The same applies to your enemy. This means you will have maximum 10+1 stacks hitting 10+1 stacks. (the reinforcements will always hit the highest stack they can reach and will not be hit by enemy stacks, even if you have less stacks than your enemy, except in counter-attacks)
Each unit has a unit-type (you can see each unit type in the Encyclopedia), the game provides in 3 different unit-types, the melee units, ranged units and the flying units. It is very important to know what type your unit has to know its performance in the battle. Each type has specific attack/counter limitations and you can base you entire Stacking around that.
The melee unit: This unit is a ground unit with a short-range attack (imagine a roman soldier with a short sword), that means it can only hit ground units (melee/ranged) and not flying units. However it will be able to counter an attack by flyers (as the flyer comes down to hit). A melee unit cannot counter a ranged unit (because of the distance).
The ranged unit: This unit is also a ground unit, but with a long-range attack (imagine an archer), that means it can hit any unit (ground/flying) and can never be countered (not even by a fellow ranged). The ranged unit is however able to counter a melee/flying attack.
The flying unit: This unit soars high in the air and can hit any unit type it likes. He acts like a flying melee unit, meaning he can counter fellow flyers, but not ranged attacks.
So now that you know how units will match up, its time to put you to a test, I will post 3 examples and you can click on 'Answer' to get the actual performance with a little extra information if needed. The first stack is the attacker and the second the defender, stack will be provided like A/B/C where A is the top stack, B the 2nd stack etc ...
Example 1:
Nidhoggs/Cockatrice/Halwen Wraith/Fireflies
vs
Sand Worms/Lightbringers
Example 2: Balrogs/Mountain Rises/Magmademons/Nidhoggs vs Halwen Wraith/Draug/Death Knights/Mammoth Maggot
Example 3: Nidhoggs/Balrogs/Magmademons/Mind Flayers/Ice Hexes/Mammoth Maggot/Lightbringers/Acid Beasts/Stone Gargoyles vs Desert Drreadnoughts/Mind Flayers/Lightbringers/Sand Worms/Dune Buggies
